About Me
Hi, my name is Gregory Jaros. I was born in Providence, RI, but I spent the majority of my life in North Carolina with my wonderful parents and three brothers. I have always enjoyed working with tech and software; in middle school I took a lego robotics elective and in high school I took several computer engineering courses. Those experiences led to me to declare Computer Science as my major at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. Even though I enjoyed my computer science courses, I had trouble keeping up with the classroom demands. Therefore, I was forced to switch my major to biology at the beginning of my junior year. Later that same year, I was finally diagnosed with ADHD. I now know my ADHD was the reason why I couldn’t keep up with the rest of my computer science classmates. With the help I received from my diagnosis, I completely turned my academic life around. I was able to focus in the classroom and my grades improved dramatically. By graduation, I thought I could be happy with a career in biology. However, I always wondered if would have succeeded in computer science if my diagnosis had happened in high school rather than college.
After graduation, I started the job search with the goal of obtaining an environmentally related job since the majority of my classroom research had been in the field of botany. After working in a laboratory for almost a year, I was finally hired for that environmental job I had been searching for. After about a month as a Crew Foreman, I realized that I could not see myself working in the field long-term.
I consider myself to be a lifelong learner, so in my free time outside of work I had continued to program as I still enjoyed working with computers as much as I did when I started college. Over time, I decided to pursue a career change into the tech industry by enrolling in a web development course at Tech Talent South (TTS). While at TTS I was able to build a solid foundation in web development and also gain a sense of direction as to where I wanted to go with coding.
I am very excited about my future in the tech industry. Since graduating from TTS in May, I’ve spent around 10 hours every day coding, learning about building web applications, and expanding my knowledge. I am confident that I will be able to succeed in the tech industry. This resume site is a small example of my skills, I hope you will look at the other projects that I have created as well.
